After being loaded into the starting gates, BAWADI (USA) (P Cosgrave) got its hind leg caught on the gate. BAWADI (USA) was removed from the starting gates, examined by the ERA Veterinary Officer and passed fit to start. After BAWADI (USA) was reloaded into the starting gates, it again got its hind leg caught in the gate and was again removed and examined by the ERA Veterinary Officer. At this time there was some confusion as to whether BAWADI (USA) was passed fit to start, and there was a level of breakdown in communications between the ERA Veterinary Officer and Assistant Starter and Starter, whereby announcements were made oncourse that the horse was scratched. However, it was ultimately determined that the BAWADI (USA) was passed fit to start, and the horse took its place in the field. BAWADI (USA) jumped awkwardly. MAWADDAH (IRE) (S Al Taleei) and UPTOWN GUY (USA) (P Dobbs) were slow to begin. STRECKER (USA) (T Durcan) and MASAALEK (GB) (R Hills) bumped on jumping and then bumped again a short distance after the start. Approaching the 300m, UPTOWN GUY (USA) shifted outwards crowding MASAALEK (GB) out onto SHEMOLI (GB) (W Buick), which was crowded out onto PROFONDO ROSSO (IRE) (J Spencer). In this incident, SHEMOLI (GB) was eased from its racing position. REHEARSAL DINNER (IRE) (T O’Shea), which was following SHEMOLI (GB), was also inconvenienced at this time. A short distance later, MASAALEK (GB) shifted inwards abruptly inconveniencing UPTOWN GUY (USA). An enquiry into this incident was adjourned as Jockey P Dobbs had already left the course.

BRIDGEFIELD (USA) (M Barzalona) was fractious in the gates. Trainer Mr M Al Zarooni was advised that he must attempt to rectify the colt’s starting gate manners prior to racing again. AL AASIFH (IRE) (S De Sousa), BRIDGEFIELD (USA) and TAMAATHUL (GB) (R Hills) were slow to begin. PRIMAEVAL (GB) (J Spencer) and RUSSIAN ROCK (IRE) (W Smith) were crowded on jumping between CANWINN (IRE) (W Buick) and ZABARAJAD (IRE) (J Murtagh). Approaching the 1300m, PRIMAEVAL (GB) drifted outwards away from TAMAATHUL (GB), which was drifting outwards, and was crowded towards ZABARAJAD (IRE), which was drifting inwards. PRIMAEVAL (GB) was eased at this time. Approaching the 200m, DESUETUDE (AUS) (H Bentley) was momentarily eased when AL AASIFH (IRE) drifted inwards away from GLOBAL CITY (IRE) (K Fallon), which shifted inwards. General The Stewards enquired into a report regarding issues involving Trainer Mr Rashed Bouresly’s staff and his horses at morning trackwork sessions at Metropolitan training centre. Mr Bouresly was given the opportunity to respond to the contents of the report and further verbal submissions were also provided by DRC Outrider Mr Coleman and Senior DRC Outrider, Mr Richard Fear. Acting under the provisions of ERA Rule 9(xvi)(b), the Stewards deemed Mr Bouresly to be negligent in his duties in that he had failed to ensure that his staff were fully informed about the correct trackwork regulations, thereby allowing them to act in contravention of the trackwork regulations, and also their failure to adhere to directions given by the DRC Outriders. Mr Bouresly was fined AED 1000.
