FLEURIE (GB) (K John) was a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 3:43pm after the colt was found to be lame in the left fore. Trainer Mr R Bouresly was advised that a Veterinary Certificate would be required prior to the colt being permitted to be entered to race again. SAHARA SPHINX (USA) (D Smith) was unable to be loaded into the starting gates and was subsequently withdrawn at 3:45pm. Trainer Mr M Al Muhairi was advised that SAHARA SPHINX (USA) would be required to complete two satisfactory stalls test prior to being entered to race again. Near the 800m, JET EXPRESS (SAF) (A Ajtebi) when held up for clear running on the inside of TABADUL (IRE) (W Smith) attempted to shift outwards and bumped on several occasions with that gelding. Shortly after this, near the 750m JET EXPRESS (SAF) again shifted outwards to obtain clear running and in doing so bumped heavily with TABADUL (IRE) causing that gelding to be restrained. On enquiry, Jockey A Ajtebi (JET EXPRESS [SAF]) was found guilty to a charge of careless riding under ERA Rule 69 (i) and was subsequently suspended from riding in races for 3 days (Abu Dhabi February 8, 2009, Nad Al Sheba February 12, 2009 and Jebel Ali February 13, 2009). Jockey T Durcan reported that QUEBEC CITIZEN (BRZ) was out paced in the early stages and had failed to negotiate the turn near the 1200m. Following the running of this race, Jockey D O’Donohoe complained of soreness to his neck and shoulder and was examined by the club’s medical officer and declared unfit to fulfil his remaining riding engagements.
