Approaching the 1100m JBEL DU BAC (FR) (R Mullen) when racing between WFA LANCER (GB) (D Hayse) on its inside and KLEBERSON (US) (G Hind) on its outside had to be steadied momentarily when WFA LANCER (GB) rolled outwards. Following the running of this race it was established that SADEEM (FR) (P Hanagan) had raced wearing toe grabs on its hind feet. On enquiry trainer Mr J Frazier explained that it was an oversight on his part in that he had failed to have the farrier remove the plates prior to racing. Trainer Mr J Frazier was subsequently fined AED 1000 under ERA Ins 25 (i) for racing SADEEM (FR) in non approved shoes.

FEET SO FAST (GB) (T Durcan) jumped awkwardly. Stewards enquired into the running and handling of MAIDAAN (GB) (E Vanreybrouck) in the straight. After taking evidence from jockey E Vanreybrouck and trainer Mr A Smith, jockey E Vanreybrouck was found guilty under ERA 68 (iii) for having failed to ensure MAIDAAN (GB) was given full opportunity to obtain the best placing in the field. Jockey Vanreybrouck was subsequently suspended from riding in races for 3 days (Thursday 22 January at Nad Al Sheba, Friday 23 January at Jebel Ali and Saturday 24 January at Nad Al Sheba). Further to this trainer Mr A Smith was advised that MAIDAAN (GB) would not be permitted to race for a period of three weeks under ERA 1 (iv).
