ROSE BRIAR (AUS) (C Taylor) was unruly in the paddock and then proved difficult to load. Trainer Mr A Abdulla was advised that ROSE BRIAR (AUS) was placed on the Paddock Schooling List and must school to the satisfaction of the Stewards. Mr A Abdulla was also advised that ROSE BRIAR (AUS) was placed on the Starter's List and must complete a Stalls' Test before being permitted to race. ROSE BRIAR (AUS) jumped awkwardly with jockey C Taylor losing his near side iron and regaining it shortly afterwards. VANISHING ACT (USA) (R Mullen) was slow into stride. MISSRAAH (USA) (T Durcan) raced wide throughout. A subsequent veterinary inspection revealed the colt had sand at the back of both nostrils. Passing the 800m SAMID (ARG) (B Doyle) lay outwards having to steady off the heels of SUBALTERN (USA) (D O'Donohoe). Jockey P Hanagan (LITTLETON GANDALF ([IRE]) was fined AED 500 under ERA Ins 8 (ii) (f) for excessive use of the whip.
